Divine Grace
By Grace

Chapter One:

I reached for the bluish-gray colored pony.  She bared her teeth, as if she would bite me.  I pulled my hand away from the fence as fast as I could.  Her teeth caught the wooden fence.  I reached for her again.  This time, she backed away, as if I'd tried to slap her.

"I'm just trying to pet you," I pleaded.  "Just let me."

I reached again and once again, the pony tried to bite me. I sighed and pulled away from the fence, but not quick enough. The mare bit my hand.  I pulled my hand away slowly so the mare wouldn't think she could bite.

I call the mare Divine Grace, even though her owner calls her 'The Blue Rose of California.'  I think he might think over that name, once he sees how often she bites.  I opened the gate door and stepped in.  Divine Grace reared and came to me, even though it was just to bite me.  I grabbed her reins and jumped on her bare back.  She reared and twisted on the grass, trying to get me off.  She didn't quit until her owner, Mr. Glass came out...

Chapter Two:

Mr. Glass didn't seem to see that I was on his pony.  She did a smooth trot to him.  He petted her.  She nickered, then bit his hand.  I jumped off.  Divine had two white socks on her back legs.  Mr. Glass yelled at Divine.

"How come she bites?" I asked.

"Cause she doesn't trust anybody.  When I try to ride her, she bites my leg," he answered, watching the horse running in the pasture.  She kept running around the yard.
