Winnie's confidence begins to crumble as she faces the toughest challenge of her horse-gentling career and her first failure. Winnie slips into a web of deceit and distress until she discovers the true source of genuine confidence.

What Readers Have to Say About Bold Beauty...

Send us Your Thoughts about this book!  You may see them on this page.

"Hey, Dandi - Every time I come up with a screen name, someone else starts using it!  Is there anything that you can do about it? Well, I love your books so much!" ~ HorseCrazy

[A Note from the Winnie Team:]  We agree, HorseCrazy!  This is getting very confusing.  How about if everyone uses their first name.  You could still add something to it.  Then, we'd all know who's who!

"When is the best time to send in reader stories?"

[Editor's Note:]  I edit and post reader stories for the Horse Talk section around the middle and end of each month, but you can send them any time.  Please be sure to include your screen name, title and chapter number of the story, so that I know where to post it it!

"Dear Winnie, I loved 'Bold Beauty'.  It was awesome!  I've read books 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 and loved them all.  Now I'm on book 4.  Thanks!" ~ McKenna

"Bold Beauty was great!  I wish that you would put more illustrations in the books.  I would love to see what Winnie, Jack, Lizzie, Barker, Catman and all the animals look like!" ~ Natasha

"I loved the book - it was the best ever.  Please do not stop writing these books.  Bold Beauty reminds me of Indi, (Independence), one of my horses - except that he is an Arabian.  Keep up the great work!" ~ H.C.

"Awesome book!  It's my favorite and I just got it on Saturday!!  I've been through something like her lie's before, but not with a horse.  It's hard to get out of a lie and even harder to tell the truth.  But trust in God and you can overcome anything!!" ~ In Christ, Alicia

"I LUV this book!  I think that jumping is so fun!  At my riding lesson two weeks ago, I was trotting a jump (at least I was SUPPOSED to be trotting).  But the horse I was riding, a palomino named Graham, got excited and started cantering.  I couldn't get him to stop, so I ended up cantering the jump.  It was very exciting!  My teacher said that she was laughing about it because my eyes got really big, but that I cantered the jump beautifully.  I'd never cantered a jump before, but I actually did it right.  Of course, I couldn't let my horse get away with it, so my teacher had me do the jump until I could make him trot.  Love your books!" ~ Horse Crazy Brianna

"Bold Beauty was my favorite book in the series!  I loved how Catman helped Winnie, but still insisted on telling sooner or later about her fall.  I also loved how in the end, Winnie still trained the horse." ~ Martie

"I love how Winnie learns that lying only weaves another even deadlier web of fear, doubt and misery!  And, she also realizes that she can't do anything alone!  She needs God to help her!  Ten stars for Mrs. Mackall!"
*****HorseCrazy*****

"I LOVE this book.  O.K., I know that you probably get that a lot, but I do.  I take riding lessons, but I haven't jumped yet. Hopefully, some day I will!"
~ Rebecca

[A Note from Dandi:]  Thanks, Rebecca!  And, I bet that you will!

"Dear Dandi - I loved [Midnight Mystery].  It was awesome.  I am like you - when it comes to horses, why waste time trying to talk to humans when you really love talking to horses?"

[A Note from Dandi:]  Hi!  Well, I like doing both!

"Hi, Dandi!  I just love 'Bold Beauty'!  Winnie had me kind of worried... she sounded kind of like she was bragging.  But I'm glad she could finally admit that she was afraid, realize that God was right there with her and jump that hedge!  I just love the way the Bible says it ... 'with my God I can scale any wall', and the way Winnie says it... 'Throw your heart over.'  I looked up the verse and highlighted it in my Bible, and I'll always keep it in mind.  It's one of my favorite verses." ~ Horse Crazy Brianna

"Hi, Dandi!  'Bold Beauty' is one of my favorite books in the series.  We do Hunters and jumping at the place where I take riding lessons.  I would definitely say that English is my favorite way to ride, though after trying bareback for the first time at my riding lesson yesterday, I may be having second thoughts.  I went to a place in January that had horseback riding, except it was Western.  I thought it was comfortable enough - until we started trotting.  I really longed for my comfy English saddle, or no saddle at all!  Anyway, I LUV your books!  Thanx!" ~ Horse Crazy Brianna

"I think this book was the BEST!  I am really into jumping right now.  I am taking English riding lessons and I just love to jump.  I really enjoyed this book." ~ Horse Lover

"This is one of the best books that I've ever read.  It is so cool!"

"I've read the third Heartland book and it's similar to this book, but I love Winnie better.  Winnie didn't like sin.  Sadly, Winnie learned the hard way, but she still cared about the people around her.  It's such a great book!"
~ Lorraine

"Hey, can horses eat licorice?" ~ HorseCrazy

[Editor's Note:]  Well, they can eat licorice flavored biscuits.  And, some herbal supplements for horses contain licorice root.  The Teton Dakota tribe of Native Americans used it to make a poultice for treating sores on the backs of horses.  But, I wouldn't give a horse licorice candy to eat, though I know that some people do.  Too sticky and sugary.  Remember, they can't brush their teeth like we do!  ;)

"I love this book.  It gives great lessons about real live and horses.  My favorite part is when Winnie and Bold Beauty finally jump the hedge."
~ Lorraine

"Winnie - I really like how you finally got Beauty to take that high-jump and then did the debate!  Hey, do you ever meet Adrianna again?"
~ E. HorseCrazy

[A Note from Dandi:]  Thanks!  I liked Adrianna a lot, too.  You never can tell if she'll pop up again!

"[Bold Beauty] was a great book!  I was inspired to work harder and try harder in stadium jumping.  It was really great!"

"I think that 'Bold Beauty' is my favorite Winnie the Horse Gentler book.  I can not say enough about this series!" ~ Emily

"Winnie - I just wanted to say that I love this book!  In fact, it really helped me, because I've always lacked confidence.  My mom and dad are always saying, 'You just need to have CONFIDENCE!!!'  But, it's really hard, especially when I'm talking to people or doing obedience exercises with our German Shepherd, Derschutz (Dair-shoots).  Do you like these names? Chief Beauty, Dawning Power, Spirit of the Wind, Golden Glory, Fairafas (Fair-uh-fas), Inglorion (eeng-lory-un) & Midnight Shadow.  I made all of these up, except for Inglorion.  It is an Elf from 'The Fellowship Of The Ring'.  Do you have any other names for a silver dapple mare?" ~ HorseCrazy!

[A Note from Winnie:]  These are all good names!  I think that you should choose the one that fits into your story the best.  A name is a good way to make a point.

"I really liked your book!  It taught me a lot about self-confidence.  I like learning about horses with a great story behind it!  Thanks for writing these books!"

"Dear Dandi - This book inspired me, because Winnie was allowing herself to rely on God, and then she sailed over that hedge as if she had done it before.  Bold Beauty is a beautiful horse and she trusted Winnie.  That is special." ~ Kasey

"Dear Dandi - I LOVE YOUR BOOKS!  I think they're the BEST books I ever read!" ~ Your #1 fan, Sara

"This is my favorite book so far.  I thought that the horse was wonderful (and Winnie, too).  It was hard to choose a favorite, because all of your books are so cool."

"All of my friends and I really liked the picture on the cover." ~ Mandie

"I LUV Bold Beauty!  She IS a beauty and a born Hunter!  I am so glad that at the last minute, Winnie and Beauty were able to take the jump, with God's help!" ~ Horse crazy Brianna

"Winnie - you are amazing!!  I want to be like you!" ~ Natalie

"Dear Dandi - I thought that it was so cool how Winnie realized that she had to trust God.  That is so true.  I loved how no-one thought that she could do it, but at the last minute she threw her heart over the fence.  I'm not surprised that Bold Beauty followed." ~ Born-to-be-horse-lover, Megan

"I just finished 'Bold Beauty'!  It was great!!  :)  Even though I ride western, I think I want to try jumping!!!" ~ Ashia

"Dear Winnie - You are so lucky to have horses - especially Nickers!  I love horses with all my heart, but don't have one yet.  Your books rock!"
~ Cowgirl

"I loved this book!  I was going through really hard times with my horse when I read this book.  It gave me comfort as I rode my horse, because I would remember how Winnie never gave up on her dreams, took chances and did it!  It also helped me get closer to God and now I know that he is up there with me every time I ride, and he always will be!  Thank you for writing these wonderful books!  I hope you keep writing more!  Thanks!"

"I love your books, Winnie!  Since I can't own a horse, I must content myself with what I have!  But, it's really hard to do that when you REALLY want something, isn't it?  I am collecting horse posters, horse books and keep money specifically for your books when they come out!  Horses are the #1 topic of conversation with my best friend!  Topic #2 is 'The Lord Of The Rings'!  I LOVE those movies and books!  When are the next Winnie books coming out?" ~HorseCrazy~

[Editor's Note:]  Books 7 and 8 are due to be released in January!

"Winnie... I think it was so great how you finally admitted that you where scared and got her to take that high jump.  I don't think I could have done that.  I really love horses, but I also like sheep and llamas. You mentioned the message board. What is it?  My mom said she wouldn't mind me answering sheep and llama questions.  Do you think I could?  Well, Dad still hasn't okayed getting a horse.  In fact, he wants to buy me a German Shepherd!   He is a really great dad you know!!!  Well, enough trottin', better get!" ~HorseCrazy~

[Editor's Note:]  We'd love for you to join the Winnie message board.  It's another place to trade ideas and chat with other Winnie readers.  You'll find a link to it called "Nickers and Neighs" toward the bottom right side of our home page.  And, take a look at the question from Eowyn below.  Maybe you two can start a new topic on the message board.  Thanks!

"Winnie & Dandi - This is one of my favorite books in the series.  I love how you finally got Bold Beauty 2 take the high-jump and then you got enough courage to do that debate!  Well, I am working on my story, Dandi, and I will send it tomorrow, if I don't have to clean our sheep's hooves again.  Hey, DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SHEEP???!!!!!  I know a lot about sheep, but I still have some questions!" ~ Eowyn

[Editor's Note:]  Hi Eowyn!  Why don't you and Horsecrazy get together on the Nickers and Neighs message board?  Sounds like she'd like to help you out.  (Please see my note above.)

"I just love this book!  I especially liked the verse: '...with my God I can scale any wall.'  It really helped me.  Now, if I'm ever nervous or scared about something, I just think, 'With my God I can...' and it really helps!  I can relate to this book, because at the place where I take horseback riding lessons, we do hunters and jumping.  I ride a REALLY SWEET Morgan horse named Chief's Morning Star (Star for short).  But I have a problem... I have to pay for my riding lessons and I'm having trouble making money.  I've been doing work around the house, but do you have any other ideas?  Thanks!" ~ Horse Lover Brianna

[Editor's Note:]  Glad to hear that you found a verse in the book that has helped you out!  Maybe you can try babysitting or yard work for neighbors, if you're old enough.  It really is a challenge to find enough work at your age.  Maybe your parents could help you look in local newspapers or put together a flyer to pass out in your neighborhood.

"I think that 'Bold Beauty' is a great book, even though I'm not finished with it!"

"I think [Bold Beauty] was great.  I LOVE jumping, so this was the book for me!"

"[Bold Beauty] was the best Winnie the Horse Gentler book I have ever read!  I hope that you write more." ~ Morgan

"I love this book!  It's part of the best series ever!  Most of my friends read Winnie the Horse Gentler.  Do you know any more good books?" ~ Mandie

"[Bold Beauty] was the best book that I have read so far.  I really liked reading about Eager Star, too!!  You have the best books."

"I would be freaked if I fell off of Bold Beauty.  At summer camp, I fell off of a horse, because the horse fell.  I liked the part of the book when Bold Beauty jumped the hedge.  I am a horse lover."

"Dear Winnie - It must of been hard training a horse to be a jumper." ~ Arabian Horse Girl

"I loved 'Bold Beauty'.  The information about hunter/jumpers in it was all correct.  All the books are great.  I've never read better Christian horse books than these."  ~ A.

"Bold Beauty was sweet and she wanted to do anything that you wanted her to do, but she was afraid.  She got it, though."

"I like the way you talk to horses.  I am glad you could give Bold Beauty courage to do the high jump for Summer and Richard.  Thanks!" ~ Bailey

"Beauty reminds me of my horse.  She's a great jumper...  when she gets scared.  But I can't get her to go over the jumps at a trot." ~ J.C.

"I thought that this was a good book!"

"I love horses!  My parents own a horse farm.  I own 3 horses - a black stallion named Cobalt, a bay mare named Princess (who is about to give foal) and a 2-year-old thoroughbred retired racehorse named Bar Q, who is a show jumper.  Most of the horses that we have are quarter horses and thoroughbreds.  There is a horse boarding at our farm that looks just like Bold Beauty!  She is so pretty!  I also like cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, softball, dressage, show jumping, cross country, piano, flute, karate and dance.  I do plays and I'm a vet volunteer!  I love all of them, but most of all I love horseback riding!  I totally love the third book!  It's the best!  Are you going to write a 7th book?  Please do!" ~ Mary-Kate

"I thought that this book was great.  I finished it in about 2 hours!!!" ~  :-D

"Cool!"

"I really liked the way Dandi had that verse - 'With my God I can scale any wall' - it really helped me!  Every time I'm scared or nervous, I just remember that verse!  I recommend it to others, too.  I think this was my favorite book so far out of all of them!  It had a really good effect on me.  Dandi Mackall, you are an awesome writer!!" ~ Brittany

"I thought that this book was the best!  I read it in one day."
~ Goldenpasofino

"I have not read it all yet, but so far this is the best!  Even though I'm a barrel racer, I think that this is the GREATEST book ever.  Great job on writing this book, Mrs. Daley!"

"Dear Dandi and Winnie - Your books are awesome.  I've been trying for a long time to find a book that suits me!  I just love the series and hope you write more.  Horses are awesome and may God bless us with them!  Thanks so much for a great book!  I am going be a a horse gentler like Winnie!"
~ Ari

"I can't find this book anywhere!"

[Editor's Note:]  Maybe we can help!  Our Tyndale web site has a Store Locator feature, where you can search for either a store near you or an online store where our products are sold.

"Bold Beauty was a fine horse until Richard and Summer Spidell ruined her!  But Winnie saved the day by building back Bold Beauty's confidence." ~ Hannah

"Dear Winnie - I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like this book!  It shows how God works in our lives and wants us to rely on Him and Him ALONE.  Keep on Horse gentling!" ~ Sea Mist  "P.S. - Nice picture!"

"I just loved this book!  I agreed with Winnie.  Bold Beauty was a born Hunter!  I'm glad that beautiful horse didn't have to go to some boring camp!  I can't wait to read the next book!" ~ Horse Lover

"I was just wondering, how long does it usually take to get a nicker?  And how do you know when it's a nicker or just a neigh?  Thanks!" ~ Rebecca

[A Note from Dandi:]  Some horses nicker right away.  Others take a year.  Some only nicker to a foal or occasionally for food.  Usually, a nicker is softer and lower than a neigh.  I like to think of it as a purr!
